type='text'>What You Should Know When Buying A Microwave Oven

The microwave is perhaps one of the most amazing wonders in the modern kitchen. In addition to being capable of heating your leftovers, it can also be used to cook food and even bake pastries.

It is so versatile that you can do whatever you want with it, whatever the size or the features. Some people use the microwave to thaw frozen food as well boil water or vegetables. Bakers also use the microwave oven to melt chocolate and make caramelized sugar in seconds. There is no need to boil the pan and watch over it for a long time.

Perhaps the greatest benefit that microwave over gives consumers is the convenience in time and also in use. It is so relatively easy to operate that almost everyone will be at home in using it. Every task will also be accomplished in just a short time.

But with a variety of models to choose from, it is sometimes hard to choose what model will fit your needs and requirements. Before you buy, it is important that you know what you want and what to use it for.
Here are some tips that should help you in shopping for a new microwave over.

1. Determine the function

In buying a microwave oven, make sure that you first know what you will be using it for. It is a waste of money to buy a high-tech model and only use it for the most basic of things like heating water and heating frozen foods.

If you feel that you will not be using it to its fullest potential, it is better to just stick to the model that will fit your needs more. That way, you can use the money that you would have spent on things that you truly need. Of course, if money and budgeting is not a problem for you, this tip is unnecessary.

2. Determine your budget

Before you choose your model, make sure that you already know how much you are willing to spend on the microwave oven. This way, you will be able to stick on your budget and would not waste time focusing on ovens that are beyond your price range. Knowing your budget will also help narrow down your options and make shopping easier for you.

3. Determine your space

Make sure that you have a place for it before you buy it. This will help you choose the size of the microwave oven that you will be buying.

This content is provided by Low Jeremy. The husband decides to make Chinese food rather than take out. The woman?s husband commutes home on a train. He whips out his palm pilot and instructs his cook to make Chinese food in less than 1 hour; they are on their way home.

1 hour later, the family gathers around the dinner table and the maid comes out with a tray of delicious Chinese Cuisine. This happens every night in this household. The wife hasn?t prepared dinner since four Christmas? ago when the husband ordered the maid through an online catalogue. Kelvit serial number KC234589 is a robot. Her specialty is cooking fine cuisine.

Meanwhile, as the wife takes a bite of her ?Caliloo? (spinach mixed with okra) and requests to have it warmed up for about 1 minute. Kelvin opens a microwave door near her abdomen made of steel; the wife places the plate into the microwave and closes the door. The microwave light comes on and in 1 minute, the wife?s food is nice and warm.

This may seem like something from a sci-fi movie. Cookware of the 21st is heading towards that direction. Many people are beginning to eat meals at home rather than eating out. Cooking today is easier than ever because there are so many options to choose from.

Technology in the cooking industry is great because it?s an assistant to busy men and women who do not have time to slave in a kitchen all day just to prepare meals such as baked ziti, tuna casserole or a chicken and rice dinner.

Even refrigerators that store our delicious meals are state of the art. In the late 20th Century, refrigerators with ice makers became the rave. A few years down the line, refrigerators came equipped with ?crushed? ice makers and water. Today, in the 21st century, refrigerators come with TV monitors. You can watch television while preparing your meal, eating your meal, cleaning up and storing your food away. Refrigerators even come equipped with computerized screens where you can electronically lock your refrigerator with a code so that greedy family members or guest do not have to sneak and eat your delicious food when you are not around.

As technology in the food industry continues to improve, people are finding more ways to save money on cookware so that they can purchase the latest products

Vuctor Nunn writes about Cookware, KItchen Etc Coupon Codes

RV Microwave Options for Motor Homes and Recreational Vehicles

For those who wish to take it on the open road on a part-time or full time basis and see this great nation by RV, it behooves them to pick the right Microwave Oven. Why you ask? Well if you are traveling a lot you may not have time to cook on the stove or in the oven in your recreational vehicle and a microwave oven sure comes in handy.

Of course with the condition of some of the roads in this country, such as the NY Toll-ways, I-10 going thru Louisiana, I-20, I-30 in AR or the scalloped Earthquake freeways in California; you are going to need sturdy appliances. A microwave can be a temperamental appliance as it bangs around and is jarred into oblivion.

May I be so good to recommend that when and if your microwave goes out in your RV due to the manufacturer trying to trim costs that you replace it with a more powerful higher end unit? First consider that to properly cook your food you are better off to buy a carousel unit, which turns the food as it cooks.

Additionally, it is recommended you go for high power too. I chose the Samsung MR-7494W. Installation is easy and you can do it yourself and it is a common size for motor homes and recreational vehicles. Be sure to make sure that your generator has at least 15 Amps capacity with such a microwave if you are replacing an old one. This Samsung unit I have has lasted nearly 5 years and has traveled to every city in the nation over 10,000 people and over some of the worst roads in our country. Consider all this in 2006.

Lance Winslow, a retired entrepreneur, adventurer, modern day philosopher and perpetual tourist.

Searching The Novelty Microwave Oven

The Microwave Oven cooks food by means of high-frequency electromagnetic waves (microwaves). The stuffs' substances such as fats, sugar, and the smallest molecules contained inside the plate absorb the microwaves. Heat is the result of this absorption. Occurrence of heat is localized in the food itself. Surrounding air inside is devoid of hot temperature, making the heating process fast and concentrate.

The innovation process never stopped from that time microwave oven was created thru stages that eliminate the negative impact of the previous, until it tends toward positive influx to the distributors and retailers.

Succeeding tests and retrials of various variables in prices comparing them with the percentage rates in periodic statistics on market demands; lead to improved pricing, and researches for best application in technology output.

The Microwave Convection Oven are often distributed and used for industrial purposes because of the volume of cooking it will undertake. It produces heat from the air that circulates from fans that are installed behind the microwave.

It cooks food much faster while reducing the overall temperature. A decrease of 25 to 30% in cooking heat and 20% decrease in cooking time is characterized by the use of the convection oven compared with the conventional.

Convenient Cooking in the Convection Microwave Oven
1. Functions with a fan behind that circulate air gently over or around the food resulting in golden brown color outside but with a lot of moisture retained inside of the food.

2. Could normally operate as normal conventional, a standard convection, or a combination of both

3. Decreased cooking temperature and cooking time.

Upgrading Prices of Microwave Oven (Breakthrough)

Microwave convection oven is a result of the final results in remodeling adjusting it to the most modern approach in features, while coping with the demands of the modern-day activities of consumers. Prices served a big factor and impact on the new models acceptability in the target distribution outlets. Receding of values consequential to the percentage of users resulted to improve basic technology sensors that opt the best in modern-day functional use.

Upgraded values were based on the actual market price (consumers' price) of microwaves out on market, new technical innovative values, production cost, consumers' affordability, and quality, pulled together to conform to the Consumers' Checklists based on U.S. Consumers Price Index (CPI).

Manufacturers came up with an upgrade of two combined variables, the "convection cook" and "convection broil," combined as one, came up to be the "convection" microwave.

Variables of the "built-in Sensor" in combination with the "auto Sensor" turned to one variable called "Sensor." Functional feature specifies never to undercook, nor overcook foods.

The present-day model of the microwave has retained the four variable features combinations of the Sensor and Convection based on statistical positive parameter among suppliers, retailers, and ultimate consumer.

This content is provided by Low Jeremy. What does it do to Humans?

Research study shows how microwave radiation alters the genetic material and caused adverse biological reactions to living organisms. This project was done to study how substances exposed to radiation emitted from a microwave oven affect living organisms. For this project, they used water as the medium and the plants as the subject to show how microwave-heated water and purified water affected the growth of the plants. As the days progressed, the two plants had much different results. The plant fed with distilled water thrived and showed normal growth. The plant fed the microwave heated water caused stunted growth until actual death of the plant occurred. See results below.

Experiment report:

Day 1: Both identical plant species were pruned to record new plant growth. Both were watered regularly, but plant A is treated with water that is heated in the microwave; while plant B is treated with purified water.

Day 3: The plants are continuously watered regularly with Pot A in microwave-heated water and Pot B in purified water. Th difference is starting to show between the two? Pot A seemed to be a bit thin and stopped sprouting leaves, unlike with Pot B; plus the color of the leaves started to differ. Pot B has a healthier color of leaves than Pot A.

Day 5: Here is where you see the major difference of the two pots. Pot A seems to be slowly drying out and dying while the plant in Pot B continues to grow and have a healthy color on its leaves.

Day 7: By this time, the plant in pot A looses its leaves and withers. You can tell how microwaved-water affected the plant in pot A.

Day 9: As we approached the end of the experiment, the plant in pot A totally died out while the plant in pot B continues to grow healthily. This concludes that microwave-heated water affects the living tissues of an organism. This simple experiment shows the possibility that radiation can cause alteration of the DNA structure of a certain organism or substance (in this experiment, water) ending in the mutation of that particular substance.

What happens to all of the food we heat in our microwave ovens? What of the baby?s formula we heat in the microwave? What is the effect upon the babies gentle developing organs? What does over 20 years of using water and eating food heated out of a microwave due to our bodies? We need to stop and think about these plants above and what they are trying to tell us through this experiment. Repeat this at home and you will find the same results. This may give you a clue as to why the Russian banned it from their country after World War 2 even though they invented it.

To see the pictures of the plants growth in days 1 through 9 go to: http://www.adminder.com/c.cgi?paully111&microwavew

http://www.emfnews.org/articles.html

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sharp-microwave.blogspot.com/2009/03/microwaved-water-that-kills-plants-what.html' title='Microwaved Water that Kills Plants. Waves from the radar set he was working on were transmitted to the chocolate he was carrying in his pocket, causing it to melt.

By more scrutinizing facts that heat of his body alone was insufficient effect of melting the chocolate, he was able to discern the reality of what was happening, having many exposures on research and experimentations.

That same year the Raytheon patented their first Microwave oven and the first set of microwave was out in the market in 1947. Looking back to the "Radarange" that had been the first microwave of Reytheon, it had long since gone on a broader range of development and usage expanded to a great extent to people all over the globe. The "Counter-oven" original Amana brand has been by-passed by two other styles, the (1) on top of the oven and (2) Built-in Style.

The Built-in type microwave oven, not to mention any preference in name, is more specifically created for smaller space-households. It is almost like being typically installed and saves a lot of space resulting to better home trafficking, attaching it to walls. Some built-in ovens combine that of the convection with attached features (built-in roast and grill performances).

Over a dozen or more type of selections can be availed in this type of oven. Most units come in variation of neutral colors in white, black, bisque, beige, stainless, and silver, without preference in cooking technology. Built-ins are made from sizes of 27/30, or 29/32 dimensions, or up to the manufacturer. Power Watt volume from 800 to l200.

Specific Features of a 27' Built-in Microwave (Example, Kitchen Aid brand):
Capacity is 1.4, Exclusive Crispwave(r)Technology, 900 Watts, combination microwave and convection, Crisp and Broil functions, and removable Turntables.

Dimension: Depth is 25 5/8 in.; Depth without handle is 23 7/8 in.; Height is 20 1/2 in.; and Width is 26 3/4 in.

Warranty choices are from 2 year to 6 years.

Prices of Built-in sold from different sources of produces approximates at $130 to $1000 and more, attaching incentive bonus on free handling and expediting deliveries.

Extensive use of microwaves are raising a lot of controversies about the effect in radiation that the wave carries just like any use of televisions, and other appliances transmitting the same electromagnetic energies. Children should never be allowed to manipulate it, and adults direct in charge of the kitchen should be alerted to take a professional technician if something goes wrong with oven.

This content is provided by Low Jeremy. Not only is it used to heat food, it can also be used for cooking, baking, thawing and even boiling water. No household appliance is more versatile than this little dynamo.

But who invented this great product?

Like many great products in history, the microwave oven is also a product of past technologies. In 1946, Dr. Percy Spencer, an engineer at the Raytheon Corporation, led a radar-related research project. Dr. Spencer noticed something unusual when he was supervising the project. While testing a new vacuum tube called a magnetron, he realized that the candy bar in his pocket melted.

Stunned by the prospect, he began to study the phenomena and conducted other experiments. One experiment involved putting popcorn kernels near the tube. Standing far away, he saw the popcorn sputtered, cracked and popped all over his laboratory.

Another experiment that he conducted involved an egg, which he placed near the magnetron tube. That time, he asked his colleague to accompany him so that they can both see the phenomena.

Because of the tremendous pressure, the egg began to tremor. The temperature inside the egg got so high that the egg exploded. Hot yolk splattered all over his colleagues face. Because of these results, they realized that they can cook other foods using the low-density microwave energy.

Dr. Spencer then fashioned a metal box. The opening of this box is directly connected to the microwave power. Since the power cannot escape the box, the result is an energy that is closeted in a space. When Dr. Spencer put food inside the box, the temperature rose quickly, cooking the food in an instant. That was the first time that food was cooked using the microwave technology.

Food engineers went to work on the microwave idea and refined it further. In 1946, the Raytheon Company filed a patent proposing the use of microwaves to cook food. An over, similar to what Dr. Spencer created, only refined was placed in a Boston restaurant for testing. It turned out to be a success.

So in 1947, the first microwave oven was introduced commercially. The first units were all big, about six feet tall and weighing 750 pounds. They were ultra expensive, costing 5000 dollars each but well, with such great technology, what is a few thousands.

Back then, the ovens had to be watercooled, so the company also had to install some kind of plumbing materials.

This content is provided by Low Jeremy. Microwaves generally seem like simple and reliable appliances, but like anything that ages, things can go wrong with it. Any microwave oven that is getting older than say 15 years, should probably be checked. If you find that food is taking much longer to cook then usual, then perhaps it's time to have a professional service done. They can test for radiation leakage or any other problems that the microwave is experiencing. They can also make a determination as to whether the microwave oven should be replaced. Chances are, that any microwave of that age should just be replaced. They are pretty inexpensive items, and the newer ones are likely to have more features and conveniences to make your cooking experience more enjoyable. Just in case your one of those avid do-it-yourselfers, here's a warning. Do not attempt to repair a microwave oven. This is a job strictly for professionals. Microwave circuits carry 3000 to 5000 and sometimes higher volts of electricity. One of the most common repairs that occur in a microwave is a worn out fuse, that gets zapped by a power surge. Easily replaced by a pro, and saves the need of buying a new microwave.

Simple Common Sense Cleaning

Microwave don't need a whole lot of maintenance, but they do require some. Simply keeping the interior clean is good practice. Covering most foods with a loose top, will keep the food in the dish or on the plate you are microwaving with. Food particles left inside a microwave will eventually turn to carbon after being microwaved multiple times. Carbon particles can arc and present a fire hazard within the microwave. Another little tip to keeping your microwave clean, is to make sure anything you put in is somewhat ventilated. This usually just means poking a few holes in the food or the plastic containers your cooking the food in. This prevents the build up of steam pressure in whatever your cooking. Nothing like an exploding potato to create a big mess for the cook to clean up.

If Ya Can't Eat It.

One simple rule of thumb for you people that like to find creative ways to use items in a way the manufacturer never intended. Don't. If your not planning on eating it don't put it inside a microwave. The only exception to this, would be the microwave safe plate or bowl the food is sitting in. It's truly amazing hearing about some of the crazy things people have used a microwave for.

Read more great information on your kitchen design and kitchen cabinets , visit http://foolishmumbles.com/2006/09/29/microwave-ovens-need-love-too/

The Samsung Microwave Oven Advantage

The best microwave ovens are those that offer you efficiency and convenience along with attractive designs. The Samsung microwave oven uses an advanced Sensor Technology that uses a special a special semi-conductor to offer you greater flexibility over conventional humidity based sensors.

This new technology offers great results even with foods that are low in moisture content such as bread, frozen treats and pizza. The Sensor Technology in every Samsung microwave oven is centered on a thick film metal oxide semiconductor.

This chip has a very high electrical resistance property in fresh air that can drop substantially in the presence of reducing gases such as organic vapors that are emitted by food during cooking. It is this reaction between deoxidizing vapors with the oxygen on the surface of the sensor that is being measured to accurately gauge when the Samsung microwave oven can stop cooking.

With the Samsung microwave oven, guesswork is removed in order to achieve perfect results. There is no need to enter time, weight and quantity information before you cook any food. That is because Samsung's Sensor Technology bases heating time on the measurement of the naturally produced vapors as the food is being cooked which can be more accurate than having a pre-programmed heating time. This results in perfectly cooked food that only Samsung knows how.

The Samsung microwave oven also has other features that can offer you other cooking capabilities unlike any other brand on the market. Samsung has the Power Grill that contains an innovative triple grill consisting of a ceiling heating element and two side elements.

This way, you will be able to cook the bottom and the top half of your food simultaneously, achieving perfect results at a fraction of the time that it will actually take. It has become one of the mainstays of every kitchen in the country today. No longer is the microwave just a luxury.

For people living a fast-paced life, the microwave oven has become a godsend. There are many people today who look for more efficient cooking appliances that can help them save time in preparing their food. Today's microwave oven has offered them that.

The microwave oven has come a long way from its early origins. The early microwave oven once was only used to reheat or defrost food and make popcorn. With advanced technology, today's microwave ovens are now capable of other cooking options such as baking, roasting, grilling, and even toasting.

With its newfound versatility, the microwave oven has even poised itself as a welcome replacement to such cooking appliances as the gas and electric cooking ranges. The microwave has become the favored cooking appliance for more and more people today.

But along with its gaining popularity, the microwave oven has also become a cause of concern for some people. Many believe that microwave oven danger can pose a big deterrent for the use of such a versatile kitchen appliance. Some of the implied dangers come from the method that is used in cooking or heating the food.

The use of microwave energy as a cooking method has been a cause of concern for many consumers. Even its quick cooking time has made people think that it may not perform well in cooking. Many people think that the shorter cooking time can help increase the incidence of food borne illnesses.

Microwave ovens have been known to be used primarily for reheating leftover food. With its shortened time to heat up food, some believe that not all the bacteria can be killed and thus can result in unhealthy food.

Another danger that microwave oven is known for is its ability to superheat liquids. Superheated liquids reach temperatures that are above their normal boiling points without actually boiling. This can usually happen to liquids placed in a container with a smooth surface. When a superheated liquid is disturbed, it has a tendency to explode accidentally which can immediately cause burns to the handler.

Using tin and aluminum foil as well as other metal containers can produce sparks when placed inside a working microwave oven. Many people are also concerned having their food exposed to microwave radiation. Some believe that the radiation can cause chemical reactions different from those that occur through conventional heating. This chemical reaction is said to help form carcinogens that in turn can cause cancer in humans.

When it comes to microwave oven danger, there is still much to be studied. Advancing technology has also made newer microwave oven models that try to address such issues. Most of the said dangers still needs to be proven through more studies and may not be accurate. All in all, microwave ovens are still safe to use. There is no need to throw out your microwave oven, at least not just yet.

This content is provided by Low Jeremy. But just like any other appliance in the house, there comes a point in time when there is unavoidable trouble. It is quite hard to distinguish a problem if you are clueless on the symptom of the problem. Therefore, buying anything requires the owner to get educated on the potential troubles in the future.

Microwave oven repair should only happen reasonably in a worst condition. Since it is not like the conventional oven radiated by heat, all precautionary measures could only be based from the product manual itself. Varying in brands, microwaves have general guidelines to consider. Sometimes proper know-how and common sense could save any costly major repair. Know the symptoms of a microwave trouble through observation:

1. Microwave is not functioning.

- Plug the wire to the outlet properly and check for loose connections
- Door must be closed properly or it will not run. Microwaves have this auto-detect function to avoid hazard
- Check and change exploded fuse

2. Sparks are visible inside

- Remove aluminum items in the microwave prior to cooking
- Utensil with metallic trims can cause sparks
- Check if the microwave paint chipped off, repaint it with anti-heat resistant epoxy or a substitute recommended paint
- Burned residues should be scraped at once

3. Turntable is not functioning

- Check if the rollers and tracks are aligned and properly assembled in place
- The glass tray must fit perfectly to the guide
- Check out oversized cookers touching the walls of the oven, hampering the movement
- Broken mechanism needs immediate repair

4. Microwave is active but does not generate heat to cook the food

- Wipe the all walls clean with mild detergent, water and sponge for clear induction of waves
- Listen and observe sounds and distinct buzz of the magnetron, which is the main microwave generator. If this is broken, it will need professional repair.

5. Touch pads do not respond smoothly or simply malfunctioning

- If it happens after cleaning, water could have penetrated through. It will need several days to dry it before using
- Check if insects thrived inside each buttons
- Protect microwave from insects by keeping it clean without residues and smell

The last thing to do is bring the whole unit to a service center. The convection facility in a microwave oven allows a 'airflow' circulation that heats up any food in less time using much less electricity. Cooking in microwave ovens is a lot faster than conventional methods of cooking. The oven operates at much lower temperatures and reduces 20% of cooking time compared to other ovens.

With microwave cooking, nutrients are preserved and the actual taste of the food remains intact. Only a minimum quantity of oil is required to cook any dish.

Food cooked in microwave convection ovens is as nutritious as food cooked in other ways, and studies suggest that microwave ovens retains more vitamins, minerals and nutrients than boiling. Nutrients like vitamin A and E are less likely to be destroyed. This is good for health.

Microwave ovens are easy to clean and maintain. Clean the exterior part by wiping it with a damp cloth. The interior portion should be cleaned with a cloth soaked in warm soapy water. There are some misconceptions though, about microwave ovens:

Microwave energy changes the chemical composition of food. - But there is no evidence of poisonous or dangerous compounds created by microwave convection ovens.

Eating food cooked in the microwave exposes you to radiation. - As soon as the oven is switched off, there are no longer any microwaves in the oven or the food. There is no evidence that microwave exposure, at any level, either causes or promotes cancer and other radioactive diseases.

Besides these, another argument against microwave ovens is that, food doesn't get heated evenly, which means there are cold spots and hot spots. Bacteria and other microorganisms can flourish in the cold spots. - But this argument can be countered too. Smaller portions cook more evenly than large portions. Thorough heating is possible, simply by chopping the food into small and similar sized chunks.

You can also ensure a more even temperature, by using shallow and round containers, rather than the square and high-topped containers in the commercial convection ovens.

There are different kinds of microwave ovens in the market. Some noteworthy are Merrychef microwave ovens, Panasonic commercial microwave, commercial pizza ovens... It takes in different features and usage. The conventional oven was primarily used in baking, heating and drying. Today, the microwave became a vogue to chefs and in the households, makes cooking and heating a lot faster and easier, with highest degree of convenience.

If you look few years back, you can't imagine yourself roaming around the house, especially in the kitchen without the modern-day appliances. It is unthinkable; we went thru the discomforts without those before.

Present conveniences in the homes are favorable to housewives and domestic assistants, be they working moms, or non-working. Kitchen appliances reduce work pressure and tension. Operations either in touch, push button, and mere switching denote big leap in the development and growth in the industrial environment.

Reviewing from a series of most advanced novelty techniques from among different manufacturers in home appliances, you'll never find one owner of a certain brand who had not gone thru great expense, energy, time and effort just to achieve top quality products that would enhance overall acceptance.

The microwave oven with a lot of trials from the beginning came up with one that outstands beyond expectations. The creation of the microwave propped up without intent. Incidental in its start, it had soared its way to global popularity because of a series of iterative regressions, discarding previous trials in production stages; bridging towards the latest usage-input, durability, and design.

Ensuing of Combination Microwave Oven into the Market

Combination microwave post-opted the convection oven. By dauntless efforts to regress the older models that were inferior in design, materials' durability, functions, easy operational know-how, and advanced capabilities, efforts were never futile.

Improved cooking features as heating, broiling, roasting, microwave grills exceed points of considerations. Inventories to search on how several models to devaluate or render obsolete reached no point of drawbacks. The result is a revolutionary front of a new model with the combination of microwave and the convection ovens complimented with everything that draw acceptance on general patronage.

Basic features include (1) cavity, (2) cooking, and (3) Programming features.

One brand name NEFF (United Kingdom), note exhibit sample of combination microwave oven:

1. Cooking Functions - Microware, Hot air, Hot air grill, Full surface/center surface grill, 41 automatic cooking programs.
2. Features - 24-hour lead clock, Clear text display, Drop down door, Push button and Rotary Controls, Stainless Steel interior, Interior light, microwave stirrer, 5-Power level microwave (90-180-360-600-1000), InnoWave Technology for more even cooking, Rapid heat facility, Child safety lock, self-cleaning back liner, and cooling system.

3. Standard Accessories - 1 flat wire shelf, 1 full width enamel tray

Microwave Ovens Guide

Long time ago, people had a dream. The dream was not revolutionary by any means, but it did demand something that the technology of their time could not achieve. The dream was to be able to cook and heat a meal in a matter of seconds instead of spending hours in preparing it and then another few minutes, in case it needed re-heating. Those were the times before the microwave oven.

Today, the microwave oven has become such an integral part of everyday life, that people would feel terribly inconvenienced if they were asked to give it up.

The market for microwave ovens has exploded in recent times and with more and more advances coming year after year, it will probably be a long time before a similar home appliance comes along that has the same impact on the kitchen.

Of course, when microwave ovens were first released they were still in infancy, so to speak. The technology was not mature and there were problems with imperfect baking quality. The timers were all out of kilter and the power regulators would quit just when they were supposed to go on all cylinders. The technological wizards have addressed all these problems and the microwave ovens of today offer some really great features such as different temperatures in different zones and better timers.

The microwave oven of today is quickly replacing other kitchen appliances because it is so versatile. It can take a full meal from the freezer to the table in minutes. One of the newest features on some microwaves is toaster slots for your morning toast. While your oatmeal is cooking in the microwave oven, your toast is made to your liking in the attached toaster. Many microwaves also have a fresh vegetable button to make cooking those garden fresh veggies a lot easier and quicker without the loss of those needed vitamins. There are also more options for the different sizes of microwave popcorn, including super-size, regular, and two smaller sizes.

With so many different features on so many different models, it can be confusing to know which one to buy. The first place to start is determining how you will use the microwave oven the most. So you need it mostly for defrosting? Then You will want one with super-defrost. If your schedule demands one that can cook entire meals, you need one that will do so without making the food rubbery or dried out. You will, of course, want to know which ovens are good quality and which ones aren?t. The stores, online and offline, are not going to tell you this.

They want to sell you an oven and will most likely say they are all good. You want the opinions of people who, like you, use microwave ovens daily. The best way to get these is to use your favorite search engine to find sites that have consumer reviews of the different brands and models of microwave ovens. Some of these opinions are no holds barred and will give both pros and cons of various brands and models. You will be able to avoid disappointment by reading these reviews. Then you can go to sites that compare prices at various stores to find the best prices for the oven you want.

Simon writes tips and advice about better home management and home improvement, you can find more information on Microwave Ovens

Microwave Ovens Guide

Long time ago, people had a dream. I use my microwave a great deal, but I use it even more in the summer. My family appreciates the nice meals and I appreciate not having to spend so much time in a hot kitchen. With this recipe you won't even have to turn your stove or oven on. Give it a try.

I use a Tupperware Rock N Serve large deep container for this recipe. If you can find a similar container give it a try. Just remember that you only want to use microwave safe containers for the microwave. Containers that are not microwave safe can release unwanted chemicals into your food. Glass is usually a safe option if you don't have the Rock N Serve container or something similar.

Ingredients
1 (16 oz) package of frozen Ravioli
1 qt jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce
1 small can of mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped bell peppers
2 cups of mozzarella cheese divided into 1 cup portions

Place all of the ingredients except for 1 cup of the cheese in your microwave container. Cover the container but try to leave a vent of some sort. This is why the Rock N Serve is good because it has a vent on it and that makes it easy for the steam to release while cooking.

Cook on high for 8 - 10 minutes or until the Ravioli is hot and tender. Stir. Top with remaining cheese. Microwave on high without a cover for 2 to 3 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

It will take less than thirty minutes to prepare dinner with this recipe. Even if it is a nice cool day it is an excellent recipe to use to make a quick dinner after a stressful day at work or running errands. Your family will love it and you will have some extra time to relax for the evening.

Donna has an MBA in Information Technology and is currently a Tupperware Director and CEO of her own company. This is great for the busy mom who needs to get dinner ready quick. It is also great for those hot summer months when you don't want to turn on your oven or stove.

I use Tupperware's Rock N Serve medium or large deep container depending on how many potatoes I am using. Try to find a microwave safe container that is deep if you don't have the Rock N Serve containers.

Peel and cut your potatoes into quarters.

Place in your microwave safe container. You may need to add water. If you are using the Rock N Serve container you don't need to add any water.

Microwave on high for one minute per potato. If you have 15 potatoes you would cook for 15 minutes. Stir every five minutes to avoid hot spots. This is for average size potatoes.

You can then use the cooked potatoes in your recipes. Here are a couple of examples.

For mashed potatoes:

Heat butter and milk in a small microwaveable container. Pour into the container your warm vegetables are in. Add seasonings to taste and serve.

For home fries:

Cut potatoes in bite size pieces rather than in quarters before cooking in the microwave.

Saute chopped onions, green peppers, and paprika in a large frying pan. Add cooked potatoes. Raise the heat and fry to taste.

For potato salad:

Keep the potatoes in the container after cooking and place in a cool sink or dish pan in ice water. This will help to cool the cooked potatoes quickly.

Make your favorite potato salad mixture and add to the potatoes once they are cooled. For example, I add Miracle Whip, chopped olives, and chopped boiled eggs because that is how my family likes their potato salad.

As you can probably see by now, you can use your own recipes once the potatoes are cooked. Cooking them in the microwave is just a faster and cooler way to cook the potatoes.

Donna has an MBA in information technology and is currently a Tupperware Director and CEO of her own company. However, if done correctly it works fine. It is nice in the summer so you don't have to turn on your hot oven. I recommend using a silicone loaf form to make the meatloaf in the microwave. You can purchase a silicone loaf pan in specialty cooking stores. You may also find one at a Department Store such as Mervyns. Silicone is a nice way to go because they are very easy to clean. All you have to do is turn them inside-out to get all the leftovers that store themselves in the corners of your loaf pan. Another thing I like about silicone pans is you can fold them up for easy storage. Hence, they work great if you have limited cabinet space. If you are unable to locate a silicone loaf pan, or simply don't want to purchase one, you can try a glass loaf pan. My only complaint with glass loaf pans is that they tend to dry the meatloaf a little.

Ingredients

1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
1 egg
Salt and pepper to taste

Combine ground beef, 1/4 cup of the barbecue sauce, onion, bread crumbs, egg, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Stir until well blended. Press mixture into microwaveable loaf pan. Spread remaining barbeque sauce over mixture.

Microwave on high 5 minutes; rotate 1/4 turn. Microwave an additional 5 minutes; rotate another 1/4 turn. If necessary, repeat until center is done.

Of course, meatloaf is only part of your meal, but it is the main item. You can also use your microwave for cooking potatoes and steaming vegetables. Use pre-made rolls so you won?t have to turn your oven on to make biscuits. These are just a couple of suggestions of what you can do to round out your meal once your meatloaf is cooked.

Donna Rivera-Loudon microwave cooking recipes Donna has an MBA in Information Technology and is currently a Tupperware Director and CEO of her own company. The problem is: who wants to turn on their oven to bake a cake or make a cherry cobbler? Here are some recipes I have made often in my microwave. I tested them on my family and they were very satisfied.

Blueberry or Cherry Cobbler

Ingredients

2 (21 oz) can blueberry or cherry pie filling
1 tsp. grated orange peel
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cup milk
3 Tbls marg. softened
2 Tbs sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 cups Bisquick Mix
Vanilla ice cream

Combine filling, orange peel, and nutmeg in deep rectangle shaped microwave container. (I use Tupperware's Large Deep Rock N Serve container) Microwave uncovered at 70% power for 8 minutes or until hot, stirring twice.

Combine remaining ingredients in a separate bowl and beat vigorously 20 strokes. Drop 12 dumplings onto the hot filling. Microwave uncovered at 70% power for 10 to 14 minutes or until dumplings are no longer doughy.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Super Easy Cake

Ingredients

One box of cake mix, any flavor. I like to use the super moist ones. They seem to come out better in the microwave.
One can of diet soda, any flavor. You can use regular soda as well.

Mix the cake mix and soda together well in a large bowl.

Spray a microwavable container with Pam. Now, be careful the kind of bowl you use. First, it must be microwave safe. I don't recommend glass containers. My mom tried to make this cake in a corningware container and it came out as hard as a rock. I use a Tupperware Heat N Serve container. This container comes in four sizes, but the 6 1/4 cup one works the best.

Pour the cake batter into the container and place the seal on it. Put it in the microwave for ten minutes. Let it set in the microwave a couple minutes and then remove the container from the microwave.

Remove the cover. Place a plate over the container and flip the container up-side-down. The cake will slide right out. Once it cools you can frost it if you would like. My husband likes to eat it as it is with some vanilla ice cream. Yummy.

My favorite mixture is chocolate cake mix and diet cherry soda.

Donna has an MBA in Information Technology and is currently a Tupperware Director and CEO of her own company. What's the Problem?

Metal, we are told, should never be used in a microwave. Yet that is exactly what the oven is made from, right down to the reflective mesh in the window.

So what's the big deal?

To understand the relationship between microwave ovens and metal, it helps to know a little about how these modern cookers work. Most people who own one are already aware that the oven itself never heats up; so how does it cook food?

The answer lies in the power source, which is a device called a magnetron. This bombards the interior of the oven with electro-magnetic waves similar to those found in sunlight. These 'microwaves' bounce off the metal sides of the oven, as well as any other metal object placed in their path.

In the course of doing this, they will pass through any non-reflective containers and agitate the water, fat and sugar molecules of any foods they find there, thus beginning the cooking process. And therein lies our first clue.

If the waves bounce off metal, it should be obvious that any food inside such a container will remain unaffected and therefore will not cook - or at least will only cook very slowly.

This phenomenon can actually be used to the cook's advantage. By wrapping parts of unevenly sized food particles in baking foil - for example, the ends of chicken legs - we can slow down the rate at which these cook and produce a more even finish.

Of course, when doing this it's important to ensure that the foil does not touch the inside surfaces of the microwave and cause electrical arcing. While this may not be harmful to you, it could be lethal as far as the oven is concerned.

Food can also be cooked in shallow foil containers, with the same proviso as before; these must not be allowed to touch the interior surfaces of the oven.

With these, the effect is for the food in them to be cooked from the top down, with practically all the heating of the bottom layer taking place through convection. Again, the crafty cook uses this to advantage.

When the bottom of any metal container used in this way feels hot, it follows that the food sitting on top of it must be at the same temperature since that is what is providing the heat. There is no need to guess.

To sum up, contrary to popular belief and some uninformed comment, metal can be used in a microwave providing it is used sparingly and with caution. Most often you will not want to use it at all for the reasons given above, but just occasionally it can be your staunchest ally.

Michael Sheridan is an acknowledged authority and published writer on cooking matters. In the news piece it was discovered that Fluorooctanoic Acid was shown to be in high levels in microwave popcorn bags.Fluorooctanoic Acid, which is added to the microwave-popcorn bags as a resistant coating, releases onto the popcorn when the bag is heated up and is then absorbed into the bloodstream and stays there for a long time. This chemical appears to be carcinogenic in lab animals. The FDA is now studying the effects of this chemical in greater detail. In addition to the problem above, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is studying a different problem associated with the butter flavoring in microwave popcorn. NDTV.com had this to report: Exposure to vapors from butter flavoring in microwave popcorn has been linked to a rare lung disease contracted by factory workers in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska. The companies who manufacture the harmful Teflon chemical stated they will eliminate the chemical by the year 2015.So what can you do in the meantime? Popcorn has become a staple and is also an affordable luxury in these troubled economic times.

A new company has come up with an affordable, practical and convenient solution that will help ensure you and your family arent being exposed to toxic chemicals when eating this delectable treat.Grannys Natural Popcorn comes with natural FDA approved microwave popcorn bags, a recipe booklet and more. There are no additives, preservatives and/or chemicals that are now being found in the microwave-popcorn you're used to. You and your family deserve to know you are safe before 2015. In fact, it's probably the safest form of cooking, given that the oven never heats up and has no sharp edges. You cannot burn or cut yourself on a microwave oven.

Food is cooked by exactly the same source of power that is found in sunlight; i.e. short waves of electro-magnetic energy that, in the case of a microwave oven, are converted from electricity. And although this can be described as a form of radiation it is not, as some people seem to think, radioactive.

On the contrary, this is the same short-wave energy that is used in TV sets, some medical equipment and even FM radio. It's also found in ordinary light bulbs, sun lamps and fluorescent tubes.

It cooks food because the microwaves are attracted by water molecules as well as those of fat and sugar. In turn, it causes them to vibrate, creating friction and therefore heat. It's a process not unlike someone rubbing his, or her, hands together.

In many cases, only a part of the food is cooked in this way because the microwaves only penetrate up to a depth of about 5cm. Heat is spread to the rest of the food by convection and distribution, which is why stirring the food is important, as well as leaving it to stand for a few minutes after the oven switches off.

The speed with which microwaves cook has also given rise to the idea that they are unable to change the appearance of food and in particular that they fail to brown meat.

The truth is that most of the time meat is cooked before it has time to brown. This is particularly true of poultry and small joints. Using cooking bags can help to overcome this problem - if that's what it is - as well as 'painting' with soy sauce, paprika, butter and the like.

On the plus side, meat cooked in the microwave will remain moist and succulent, retaining most of its nutrients, which in turn will give rise to enhanced flavor.

Vegetables, too, will benefit from the rapid cooking in very little water, which keeps both their color and their nutrients intact.

In short the microwave is not just for reheating leftovers and cooking TV dinners. It has a respectable place in any modern kitchen and has many benefits to offer, not the least being the fact that, while it may not entirely replace a conventional oven, it is a lot cheaper to buy, economically far superior and a good deal more versatile.

Michael Sheridan is an acknowledged authority and published writer on cooking matters. Millions of people use them everyday to warm up leftovers, cook frozen dinners, and even make popcorn. As much as people use microwaves on a daily basis, most people only utilize a small percentage of a microwave ovens capabilities. Before you go out and purchase your next microwave oven, it is a good idea to have an understanding of everything a microwave can do for you as well as a knowledge of the types of microwaves that are available.

Most microwave ovens see the majority of their use coming from simple tasks such as reheating leftovers or thawing frozen food, but they are able to do so much more. Microwaves can also be used to cook complete meals in very little time. Because microwave ovens cook food much faster than a conventional oven or stove, more nutrients are allowed to remain in your food, making the microwave a healthy cooking option. Microwave ovens are also an economical choice because they save a lot of money in energy costs. With such quick cooking times, they will be at full power for much less time than a conventional oven or stove, using less electricity and saving you money on your utilities. They also are a wonderful alternative to cooking with your oven on a hot day. There is nothing worse than heating up the kitchen when it is already sweltering outside. Try preparing your whole meal using the microwave instead of the oven and not only will your house remain at a much more comfortable temperature, you will save money by not having to run a fan or the air conditioner to compensate for the heat the oven or stove caused.

There are several things to consider when buying a microwave oven. If you have an understanding of your cooking and reheating needs, you will be better equipped to choose exactly the right microwave oven for you. Capacity and power are the biggest differences in the microwave ovens on the market today. Before you shop around, it is best to determine what capacity and power your family needs.

If you plan to use your microwave to cook a lot of food for a large number of people you need to buy a microwave oven that is a higher powered unit. Look for a microwave with a wattage of at least 1000 watts. Compact microwave ovens run between 500-800 watts, midsize microwave ovens tend to range from 800-1000 watts, and full size microwaves are over 1000 watts. The higher the wattage, the more power the microwave has, which means faster cooking times.

The capacity of a microwave is almost as important as the wattage. You want to make sure that you get a microwave that is big enough to fit your favorite cookware. If you are planning to cook large casseroles in your microwave, you should consider buying a full size model. Compact microwave ovens have a capacity that is less than .8 cubic feet. Midsize microwave ovens have a capacity that is .8 to 1.2 cubic feet and full size microwaves are always larger than 1.2 cubic feet.

The last thing to consider when buying a microwave oven is storage. The size of the microwave will limit where you can place it, so it needs to be taken into account. If you have limited counter space, a full size microwave may be out of the question. If you are set on getting a high wattage microwave with the capacity to cook a roast, but your counter space is limited, there are a few alternatives. You can buy a microwave cart to set it on or invest in a microwave that fits over your existing range. You can also find microwaves that fit under cabinets or built in to your walls.

If you are in the market for a new microwave, carefully consider how much capacity you need, how high a wattage system you require, and how much kitchen space you can allot to your new microwave. Once you have figured out the three basics, you can easily narrow down your choices based on your list of needs. Buy the microwave that best fits all three of your criteria.

Daniel Smith writes about Home Appliances and Kitchen Appliances

Are You a Microwave or Crock Pot?

Are You a Microwave or Crock Pot?

by: Kimberly Chastain

In our fast paced society we often want everything done quickly or your boss wants it done yesterday. In your spiritual life are you a Microwave or Crock Pot? I think often we want God to answer our prayers in Microwave fashion. I prayed a specific request today and I want it answered today. If our prayers are not answered quickly, we often wonder, What is God doing? We also decide to go it on our own and not wait for Gods direction. Often it is difficult to wait on Gods timing.

When we are in Crock pot mode we pray and rest in the knowledge that Gods timing is best. Often, God may have to let several things simmer in our life before he answers our prayer. Many times in my life I have seen Gods handiwork after the situation is over. If God had answered my prayer the way I wanted him to, it would not have gone well at all. God knows what is best for us and when it is best for something to happen.

I look at Scripture and see God works in Microwave and Crock Pot mode. When Daniel was in the lions den God worked immediately to shut the mouths of the lions. I have to admit if I was Daniel I would want to know why God didnt act before I got thrown in the lions den. Daniel being thrown in the lions den was used to reflect Gods glory and power. God also works in Crock Pot mode. Do you remember Joshua and the battle of Jericho? The people of Israel were marching around a wall for 7 days. Dont you imagine they asked God, Why? During that time Rahab was getting her family ready to leave Jericho. Could it be that God took seven days of marching around Jericho, to save one woman and her family? Could it be that God took that time for one woman who was faithful to God in spite of her lifestyle, in spite of her whole community being against God to show his glory? Most of the Israelites did not know about Rahab, but God did. In Gods perfect timing he rescued the Israelites and Rahab, not in the way the Israelites would have wanted. God gave them victory in the battle in Crock pot mode.

So, I ask you are you in Microwave mode or Crock Pot mode in your spiritual life? Please remember God is always in control even when it feels everything is out of control. Trust Gods timing and know he only wants what is best for you.

© 2004 Kimberly Chastain

Kimberly M.
